Todd Voss
Todd Voss was born in 1966 in Davenport, IA. The rolling wooded farm land of the Mississippi River Valley, where he was raised, influenced his early connection to the land. He always had an interest and talent for art, so he pursued it at Maharishi International University in Fairfield, IA, graduating summa cum laude with a BFA in 1990.
Voss moved to Minnesota in 1998 and lives in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Voss has been influenced by Lake Superior and the North Woods. These two types of landscape, farm and lake, have been the main subject matter of his paintings.
Typically, his paintings begin with field studies and reference photos. Small works are often done outdoors, on location, however, larger paintings are completed in the studio from the aforementioned reference materials. Voss enjoys seeing a scene develop and come to life through this process.
As a dedicated realistic oil painter, his goal is to journey through the artwork deeply into a relationship with his surroundings. And in this process, not only create enduring images that express the preciousness of nature, but also connect the viewer with something greater than themselves.
As a full-time artist, his artwork is available at many outdoor art fairs in the Midwest.
